Today the statistics of kids with hearing impairments in American range to about three million. The trouble with these statistics is that they tell us how many but not whom. When the boy heard her she went and did what he was told. This lead the mother to believe that when you give emphasis on something the boy will be able to obey.

The boy found it hard to be friends with the other kids in school. In terms of school work he was very good at it. This boy was part of a state that did not have laws regarding hearing tests on children. In school when the boy was about 9 there were audiometer tests given to the kids.

After the test came the results showed a severe hearing disability that was because of the scarlet fever. He can now hear better with the use of a hearing aid. The right medical care will also contribute to the betterment of his natural hearing.

Not every case has such a happy ending. There are some cases that will be hard to treat once the problem is found. It is not so much the tests conducted that are a problem but the following up of it or the treatments. Most of the time, getting tested is easy sine all you really need to do is stay for a few minutes then leave. But what happens after you leave? Do the parents and schools follow up what you've told them? That's the crux of the problem. This is one cause of permanent hearing problems. The person most likely to spot this problem is the mother. And she should do it long before the child enters school. One good way to check if there is indeed a problem will be when you leave your child in one room and speak to them from another and judge their reaction. Yet doing this can break a mother's heart. With the presence of simple home test mothers can now use it to gradually test the hearing of their child. A baby should be able to recognize normal everyday sounds like a telephone ringing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a door banging, loud clapping of hands, and dogs barking if their hearing is normal. A sudden reaction from a baby because they saw you and not because they heard you come in will be a sign of hearing problems. If your child has discharges or odors from your child's ear, or deformities or swellings in or about the external ear canal then they might have a hearing problems. If a child will respond to things you say while you are in another place then rest assured they can hear properly. If the child's voice is natural and normal then they are able to hear well also.
