Founed in 1963, Boston Ballet is one of the leading dance companies in North America. Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen presents an internationally acclaimed repertoire of classical, neo-classical, and contemporary works.
Graduates of the Boston Ballet School's 2008 class joined the Boston Ballet II, the Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet Austin, Harvard University, and Stanford, among others.
The BostonBalletCenter for Dance Education is North America's largest ballet school. The Center teaches more than 5,000 students of all ages every year through Boston Ballet School, Summer Dance Workshop, Summer Dance Program, Citydance, Taking Steps, and Adaptive Dance. Its programs are presented in four major ballet studio locations, in community centers, and in the Boston Public Schools.
On September 13, the Boston Ballet School held its "Open House" for the community at its Norwell (MA) studio. The open house was attended by School Principal Jared Redick. He is a member of the Boston Ballet. Company members in attendance included Misa Kuranaga, Sarah Wroth, Krista Ettlinger, Melanie Atkins, Sabi Varga and James Whiteside. They were on-site to sign autographs and talk with visitors.
For ages 8-20, the School has a "complete classical ballet curriculum." And, an Intensive Program offers students age 11-19 a "more rigorous course of study within the Classical Ballet Program." At the top of the pyramid is the Trainee Program [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a "Finishing program for aspiring professionals" age 16-19.
The Boston Ballet School holds classes for students age 2 and older. There are three studio locations: Boston's South End, Newtonville, and Norwell (MA). In January 2009, the School will open its fourth studio location in Salem (MA) [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in conjunction with the YMCA.
The Boston Ballet has a second company, the Boston Ballet II. Members present lecture-demonstrations and other programs to audiences in the Northeast. They also may perform with the Boston Ballet, and independently.

The Ballet was performed at the Universal Arts Center in northwestern Seoul. Han Sang-hee, Staff Reporter for the Times Review called the ballet, " . . .an energetic performance that received appreciative applause from the audience."
Classes available include the Children's Program, for students age 2-7. This class offers "creative movement and ballet fundamentals through a series of age-appropriate ballet classes."

The Boston Ballet has returned from South Korea following an August 31 performance of "Three Masterpieces," and is looking forward to a busy fall. This was the first time the troupe has performed in South Korea. An article in the Korea Times Review indicates, three "Masterpieces," namely "Concerto Barocco," "Polyphonia [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," and "In The Upper Room," had made headlines for their originality even before the show."
